Saved and Fully Assured

Because the believer is truly known by Christ—having life and identity in HIM—the pronouncement, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness,” (Matthew 7:23) does not and cannot apply to the one who is in Christ. This sobering declaration instead serves as a warning, making it imperative that one’s confidence is not placed in outward works or religious activity that do not amount to salvation and intimacy with Jesus Christ. Salvation is by grace through faith—it is not earned by works, but given as a gift from God. Because it is grounded in God’s grace and not in human effort, its security rests in HIM, not in us.
